Sun rises in Russian city after 40 days of darkness

The residents of Murmansk in the North West of Russia witnessed sunlight for the first time in 40 days on January 11. The city experiences a phenomenon called polar night, which occurs when the Earth’s northernmost and southernmost regions do not receive sunlight for more than 24 hours. Murmansk’s residents had been living without daylight since early December.
