SAMBA, Jan 11: Sadguru Madhu Paramhans Ji today inaugurated an orchard here at Sant Ashram, Ranjadi, where sapling of “Hariman – 99 Summer Zone”, a new species of apple, was planted in more than 20 kanals of land.
This new species of apple tree grows at atmospheric temperature upto 45 degree C, has pink flowers and fruit ripens in the month of June. The tree starts giving fruit 3-4 years after plantation. Colour, fragrance, juice and contents of the apple are like those found at high altitudes. Weight of apple is 178 – 200 g and each plant gives about 10-12 Kg fruit.
This has been done with the help of Gulam Nabi Naik, (Rtd Divisional Commissioner) and Dr K C Sharma, a surgeon specialist from Udhampur. Both volunteers and twin friends have already planted these saplings at Kathua, Hiranagar, Samba, Jammu Central University, University of Jammu, SMVD University, IIIM, Director Agriculture and all the colonies of Jammu, Gole Gujral and Udhampur district.
They intend to extend this orchard to more than 100 kanals and provide saplings to all growers in Summer Zone areas. This step is certainly historical and will certainly change economy of Jammu.
This new species of apple has also been planted at Rashtrapati Bhawan and virtually all States of India. Fruiting has already started in Karnataka (Chikmaglur and Balgaun) and Punjab.
