JAMMU, May 22: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar today conducted a surprise visit of Kathua and Samba districts for an on the spot inspection of water supply scenario in these areas.
During the tour, people of these areas told the Minister that there was a need to take immediate steps to overcome the water scarcity problem.
During the visit, the Minister directed the officers and Engineers of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department to gear up their field functionaries and expedite the pace of work on all WSSs, pump stations and other irrigation projects so that people of these areas don’t face any inconvenience in the current summer season.
The Minister directed the officers to ensure that necessary steps are taken at an earliest for providing safe drinking water to the people. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to provide the requisite facilities to the people.
Earlier, the Minister inspected the water supply scenario in the Sapwal village at Samba where he directed the Executive Engineer, PHE to cover two un covered habitations so that the people get requisite water facilities. He also directed the PDD to upgrade the 63KV transformer to 100KV for smooth functioning of the water supply schemes.
Among others, Executive Engineer, PHE Division Samba and various officers of the Department accompanied the Minister.
