Sukhnandan, Kohli visit cloudburst hit areas

BALTAL, July 25: Minister for Public Health Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today visited Baltal and Sonamarg where 3 persons died and 11 injured due to cloudburst late last night.
Mr. Sukhnandan crossed the landslide by foot to reach base camp. He went round the base camp and took stock of functioning of hospital where the injured person are admitted.
The Minister was informed that all the civil departments like PHE, Health, PDD, Revenue, Electricity, CAPD are working smoothly in the base camp. He was also informed that sufficient quality of ration and medicines including life saving drugs and X-Ray, ECG and other related facilities are available in the camp.
While interacting with the Yatris, the Minister assured that the Government will provide them all necessary facilities for making their Yatra comfortable.
Later, the Minister visited village Kullan where the cloudburst damaged property including residential houses worth crores of rupees last week. He directed Executed Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Division to remain stationed at Kullan and prepare detailed project report to protect the village from such incidents in future.
Meanwhile, Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli visited Gadibal Achhimarg area near Sonamarg of Ganderbal district to take stock of the situation that has arisen due to cloudburst yesterday.
He said that the road should be clear as early as possible so that Yatries don’t face any inconvenience due to blockage of road.  He said timely and early clearance of road would also help the passengers and tourists visiting the Ladakh, saying that adequate arrangement,  by deploying additional buses, would be made as soon as the road cleared for their convenience.
Interacting with the stranded Yatris and passengers, Mr. Kohli assured that the Government would make every possible arrangement for darshan and their easy stay.  He also visited Thajwas area, where the nomads are living, took stock of their problems being faced by them.
Responding to their demands, the Minister said that their genuine demands would be looked into and addressed in phased manner.
