JAMMU, Mar 25: Former Minister and Ex MLA Marh, Sukhnadan Kumar expressed dismay over the delay in desilting and clearing of irrigation canals across Jammu division. He alleged that inordinate delay in the annual desilting and repairs of canals will affect the paddy sowing activity across the Jammu division.
He said that the divisional administration has failed to streamline its duties. Delay in desilting of irrigation canals will give a blow to the agriculture sector in this region, he said during an informal chat with media persons today.
He impressed upon the divisional administration to instruct the concerned department to act swiftly to clear the irrigation canals so that water can reach tail end area to enable farming community to start paddy cultivation timely. He also urged the administration to instruct Irrigation and Flood Control Departments to take urgent repairs of the banks of irrigation canals.
“While visiting tehsil Bishnah village Domala Siphon in Chhiniya Panchayat along with DDC members, Sarpanches, panches and political workers he found that repair work of the siphon is still pending for one and half year now. Under this siphon three panchayats including Chinniya, Treva and Jabbowal fall and if its renovation is further delayed the farmers in Bishan, R.S. Pura upto border will be put to problems. Same condition will be n Marh constituency where the work of renovation of Rathua Kool, Pangore and Chargali, has not been started ,he added.
He said that Rathua Kool has been damaged since long and work has also been allotted to the constructing agency four years back but the work has not been started by the contractor and administration is doing nothing in this regard, he said.
He also Informed that in Tawi Island Sub Division of Irrigation Department & Kandi-1, PHE Sub-Division Marh is without AEE since one &half year. Though instructions have also been issued by Lt. Governor’s office in this regard.
If this will be the attitude of the administration how the Centrally sponsored schemes such as “Har Ghar Jal”etc under Jal Jeevan Mission can be provided.
He also request to the Commissioner Secretary Jal Skati and Divisional Commissioner Jammu to take this matter seriously and on priority basis for the benefit of the general public of ruler areas of Jammu Division and completion of delisting work in time so the supply of water in these canals is not delayed.
He also sought immediate intervention of Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha in the matter.
