JAMMU, Apr 8: To ensure that uninterrupted water reaches at the end of the main canal, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Chowdhary today inspected the renovation and repair works on the main canal and its distributaries and inspected the whole stretch of the main canal for the smooth conduct of Baisakhi Mela.
Among others MLA West, Sat Sharma, Chief Engineer, I&FC, H C Jerath, Superintendent Engineer, Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, Executive Engineer, S R Shukla and other officers of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department also accompanied the Minister.
The Minister was apprised about the problems being faced by the people in the area. He assured to redress the same immediately.
The Minister inspected the Canal Head and directed the concerned authorities for desilting of main canal within 4-5 days so that it is opened on the eve of Baisakhi.
The Minister also visited Talab Tillo, Bohri Patta and Akhnoor road sites to check distributory number-D8 which passes through Talab Tillo and instructions were issued about raising of crossing above the water level of the canal and removal of encroachments. He directed the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control to complete the desilting work on war footing.
Similarly, he inspected distributory number-D7 and issued similar instructions to the concerned authority.
Later, the Minister also inspected outfall of Muthi Nallah and issued instructions to call the senior officers to redress the grievances of the people.
