Sukhnandan alleges negligence in clearing water channels, seeks probe

JAMMU, May 10: Questioning timing of releasing water from the river into channels, Chairman of BJP Panchayat Raj Cell and former Minister, Sukhnandan Choudhary requested the J&K Lt Governor to order an inquiry on the negligence in clearing the water channels.
“How the water was released without proper maintenance of the important concerned channels and the water routes?” questioned Sukhnandan Choudhary while addressing the media persons at party headquarters, here today.

He said that officials opened up the canals on Basaikhi without clearing the routes with the result farmers are left with inadequate arrangement of water supply to the hybrid varieties of Paddy seeds like 64-44, which are being sown presently.
Sukhnandan Kumar further said that work on the siphon on D9 Ranbir Canal which goes up to Ramgarh is in process and yet to be completed and hence the water from the river has nowhere to go. He said that due to this major flaw, water channels cannot work to their full capacity because of which the hard working farmers of the region are suffering badly.
Kumar added that the work on the Domala siphon on D17 Ranbir Canal near BSF Pittal post is also in process and yet to be completed. He said that areas outside fencing are at loss due to this fault in the supply system. He said that the estimate for the same has been forwarded and taken up many times but no progress was visible on the ground level related to this issue. He said that water is not reaching the tail end Panchayats till borders like Nikkowal.
Sukhnandan also raised the issue of the lift irrigation schemes and stressed that the tube wells should be taken care of. He requested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir to take cognizance of these issues on the priority basis and sought an inquiry in the lapses that caused huge sufferings to the farmers.
He said that the farmers from Marh, RS Pura, Raipur Domana and other areas of the region are suffering and the LG must take early action to mitigate their woes and save them from being befooled by the authorities concerned.
J&K BJP Kissan Morcha President Omi Khajuria, DDC Member, Bishnah Dharminder Kumar and Pt Narayan Dutt Sharma (Bishnah), State Executive Member BJP were also present in the press conference.
