JAMMU, Apr 27: Station House Officer (SHO) of Janipur Police Station was attached today following the suicide of a man who left behind a suicide note and video blaming the police officer of “harassment”. An inquiry has also been initiated against the police officer.
The controversy began after the history-sheet of Rajesh Kumar, 47, alias Sippy, was transferred from Gandhi Nagar to Janipur Police Station on April 12, following his relocation.
Kumar had previously been implicated in three theft cases from 2005-2006 at Gandhi Nagar Police Station.

On April 19, Kumar was processed under section 110 of the CrPC by an Executive Magistrate. He was then summoned to Janipur Police Station on April 25.
According to sources, he arrived with his wife, who was initially asked to leave but ultimately both were allowed to depart that evening.
Tragically, the following day, Kumar was found dead at his home, having hanged himself from a ceiling fan.
He left behind a video and a suicide note accusing the SHO Janipur Police Station of mistreatment towards him and his wife, an action he claimed drove him to end his life.
The revelation of Kumar’s death led to a public outcry, with his family members and relatives staging protests demanding accountability for the SHO’s actions.
The situation escalated when a video in which Kumar detailed the alleged harassment went viral. In the video, he stated that the harassment was connected to a case in which he had been acquitted by the court of law nearly two decades ago.
The demonstrators, profoundly agitated, demanded severe punishment for the SHO and called for job provision for Kumar’s widow and family.
The protest saw them placing Kumar’s body on the road near Saugat Chowk, Janipur, Jammu, and continued until authorities intervened.
Officials assured the aggrieved family that the SHO would face scrutiny and possible disciplinary action, leading to the cessation of the protest.
Following these assurances, Kumar’s last rites were conducted at approximately 5:30 pm on April 27.
