NEW DELHI, Apr 29: Sugar prices gained 0.34 per cent to Rs 2,931 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, driven by an improvement in summer season demand in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in May gained Rs 10, or 0.34 per cent, to Rs 2,931 per quintal, with an open interest of 38,090 lots.
Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in June edged up by Rs 8, or 0.27 per cent, to Rs 2,964 per quintal in 27,490 lots.
Marketmen attributed rise in sugar prices at futures trade to pick-up in summer season demand in the spot market but ample supplies, limited the gains. (PTI)
