Sir,
What our big contingent of players could do not achieve at recently concluded Rio Olympics, that was done by Mariyappan Thangavelu, and Varun Singh, the two atheletes who participated in Rio Paralympics. Mariyappan Thangavelu became only the third Indian ever to clinch a Paralympic gold while Varun secured a bronze as the duo scripted history for the country in the men’s T42 high jump event at the Paralympic Games. The duo did the impossible despite their disability. This achievement will be remembered in the annals of Indian sports history. Their victory underlies the fact that you can achieve success provided you have determination and perseverance to cross the hurdles that accompanies every event big or small. Their achievement is a lesson for the players who always complain about lack of facilities, and put forward many alibis for their poor performance. This two have brought laurels to the country.
The Government should make all possible efforts to tap the talent among disabled, and encourage it to participate in these games at national and international level.
Yours etc….
