Students protest

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Students protest for teaching staff’ DE Oct 11.
Non-availability of adequate teaching staff in various Government schools across the State is a reflection of Education Department’s non-seriousness to rationalize the staff, and fill the vacant post.
There are so many vacant posts in schools particularly, located in far flung areas. The Government is quite aware of this fact, but for reasons known to it, these posts are not filled on fast track basis. The Departmental promotions are not conducted periodically and in a systematic matter.
It takes years together for the Department to make promotions. There are almost 98 vacancies of English lecturers in the Department. It was three years ago when some masters were promoted. Since then no fresh promotions were made. It took the Department more than three years to get certificates, and other documents verified by a committee set up for this purpose.
Even when tentative lists were released, no final list has been released to the dismay of the prospective lecturers. One does not know when will the Education Department conduct DPC for filling the vacant posts.
Yours etc…
