UDHAMPUR, May 14: Demanding teachers, drinking water and sitting facility in their school, students of eight different Government schools in Basantgarh zone of Udhampur district, took out a strong protest march, here today.
The students of Government Higher Secondary School Khaned, High School Ponara, Middle School Lower Ponara, Middle School Sung, High School Kadwah, Middle School Loudhra, Girls Primary School Khaned and Primary School Soni, took part in the protest march.
The protesting students boycotted their classes and took out a protest march from Khaned to Basantgarh, which was also joined by some locals. They were shouting slogans in support of their demand of adequate teaching staff, drinking water and sitting facility in the schools.
The protesters lamented that due to the shortage of teaching staff in the school, the students were facing problems to get their queries solved pertaining to their subjects. Further, they added, there is no drinking water facility as well as proper sitting arrangement in these Government run schools.
According to the locals, students’ strength at Government Higher Secondary School Khaned is 450 and there are total 39 posts of teachers and 15 of Lecturers. However, 28 posts of teachers and 13 of Lecturer are vacant.
They said that a memorandum in this regard was already submitted to the Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar but no action has been taken so far thus forcing the students to adopt agitational path.
