JAMMU, Apr 6: As the corridors of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar continued to remain tense, students and political parties held protest and demanded action against the culprits, who tried to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the institution.
Carrying Tricolour, hundreds of students studying in Jammu University took out a protest rally from the Varsity Campus to Bikram Chowk and held protest against the police atrocities over the non-Kashmiri students at NIT Campus in Srinagar.
They demanded immediate action against the erring officials and the students, who raised anti-national slogans in the campus.
The students of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) held protest under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, CUJ Unit. The students expressed concern over anti-national elements in the NIT premises and beating of non-Kashmiri students by security personnel. While addressing the gathering, ABVP President CUJ Rajinder Kumar and Secretary GM Ali demanded protection for NIT students.
To lodge protest against failure of the State Government to protect students of NIT Srinagar from the brutality of J&K Police, the activists of Youth Congress led by PYC Chief Pranav Shagotra ghearoed official residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh for endorsing cruelty of the police on students. They held demonstration outside the residence of Dr Singh and blocked traffic on Talab Tillo road.
As the Youth Congress activists tried to enter into the residence of DyCM, they had scuffle with police. Over two dozen Youth Congress activists were detained by police, who were later got released by senior leaders of JKPCC including Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, GM Saroori, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Namrata Sharma, Shahnawaj Choudhary and Anil Chopra.
To lodge protest against ruthless using of force on non-Kashmiri students of NIT in Srinagar, hundreds of activists of Team Jammu under the leadership of its Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal held massive demonstration against failure of the Government to protect lives of the students. Chairman of the SOS International Rajiv Chunni and President of Pradesh Vishwakarma Sabha Shashi Verma were also present on the occasion along with their supporters. Giving a warning to the Government that people of Jammu will not tolerate such atrocities of police on nationalist people, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that the ongoing struggle of NIT students will be taken to the logical conclusion.
National Secular Forum (NSF) held protest in Jammu University against J&K Police demanding security of non-local students in NIT Srinagar. The protest was led by Amit Sanotra, State Secretary NSF and participated by Varun Dogra, Arun Manhas, Amit Kumar, Shubam Kumar, Varun, Arun Sharma, etc.
National Panthers Party (NPP) activists led by Harshdev Singh, Chairman NPP and Yashpal Kundal, State President, Young Panthers also joined the protesting parents at Exhibition Ground. Hars-hdev Singh called for provision of adequate security to the students, while Yashpal Kundal cautioned Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani to take the cognizance of the situation and assert the State Government to take stringent action against the culprits and assure safety of the students otherwise NPP would launch agitation. Meanwhile, NPP activists under the leadership of its State President Balwant Singh Mankotia also held protest at Udhampur by taking out a protest rally from Slathia Chowk. The protesters burnt the effigy of State Government and demanded adequate security to all the non-Kashmiri students, studying in NIT Srinagar.
Congress activists held protest at Ward Number 10 under the leadership of Naresh Sharma and Pankaj Sharma. The protestors demanded action against those, who are responsible for creating law and order situation at NIT in Srinagar.
Congress activists under the leadership of Senior Congress leader Sumeet Magotra staged demonstration at Udhampur against BJP-PDP Government for brutal lathi-charge by police on innocent NIT students in Srinagar. They blocked Dhar Road near DC Office and demanded action against the culprits.
