The group comprised of 12 B-Tech students from Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, near Chandigarh developed a two seater boat which entirely works on solar energy with the load carrying capacity of 150 Kg.
As per the students, keeping the Dal Lake free from pollution was the main motivation behind innovation of the solar boat. “The idea was to make a pollution free motorable boat. We used solar panels and batteries in it which converts the solar energy into mechanical energy and the boat is able to move forward. The boat once charged can run up to 2 hours continuously and will be recharged simultaneously through solar energy. It can also be recharged through electricity as well,” Gousia Qadir, one of the students said, adding, “we presented only the model today and it needs to be modified further.”
Another student Umer Farooq who hails from Shopian district said the solar boats can be a good tourist attraction and it will be pollution free as there is no fuel consumption.
While giving further details about the boat, the students said that the boat is made up of Deodhar frame and plywood body with front steering system. “The boat is 7 feet 2 inch long, 3 feet 6 inch wide and 1 feet 4 inch deep. The battery of 12 volts x 4 Nos & Solar Panel of 75watts x 4 Nos has been installed on the top of the boat. The boat is driven by a DC Motor of 48 volts, 900 watts,” they informed.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group appreciated the students and Faculty members who were working on this project since last month.
Kataria said that the idea behind this project is to minimize human fatigue and make effective usage of renewable energy resources. “Over 1800 students of Jammu & Kashmir are studying in Aryans who are excelling in all fields” Kataria added.
Speaking on the occasion, D.C. Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah while appreciating the students and the staff said that the Aryans Group always motivate its students for the innovations and work on live projects which could bring a revolution in them and the society.
“The students have done a wonderful innovation. The boat is moving without any hassle with the help of solar power. We need to promote these type of innovations and district administration will do whatever we can to help these students,” he said, adding, “Kashmiri students possess the instinct to work if guided and supported in right direction.”
