Students’ indefinite hunger strike enters 14th day; two hospitalized

DODA, Oct 19: Two more fasting students were hospitalized, as their condition deteriorated, during the ongoing indefinite hunger strike, which entered 14th day, here today.
Students namely Mohd Saleem and Hem Raj, were shifted to district hospital, as their condition deteriorated during the ongoing hunger strike.
The students were demanding starting of PG Classes in Doda Campus, University of Jammu, appointment of Rector at Doda Campus, starting of Commerce stream in GDC, hostels for Boys and Girls at district headquarter and implementation of half fare charges to students.
Students including girls from Government Degree College, Boys Higher Secondary School, Girls Higher Secondary School, ITI College and various other Colleges, led by Mukesh Parihar, district president, All India Students Federation (AISF), blocked the road for more than three hours.
They raised slogans against Jammu University authorities and the Education Department for not redressing the problems being faced by the students community in the district.
While speaking, Koshal Sharma, district general secretary, AISF, said that students would continue their protest till their demands were redressed.
Additional District Deve-lopment Commissioner, Ghu-lam Nabi Balwan, visited the dharna site and assured the agitating students, that he will take up the matter with the Higher Authorities for redressal.
Meanwhile, Printer’s Asso-ciation, Bar Association, Trade union, Educational Develop-ment Society, Welfare Society, public and various other organizations also extended support to the ongoing agitation of the students.
