RAJOURI, Feb 13: The strike and protest of  the students of  College of  Engineering and Technology of  Baba Ghulam Shah Badsha University (BGSBU), continued on the second consecutive day here today.
The students of engineering stream of the Varsity went on strike Thursday in support of their pending demands.   They held massive protest demonstration and dharna outside their College complex on the Varsity campus in support of their demands today.
Reports said the students of the College of Engineering and Technology today held second round of meeting with the Dean  but after receiving no convincing response, they decided to go ahead with the their strike and protest programme. The agitating students boycotted their classes on the second day  and shouted slogans  in support of their demands. They were also carrying placards in their hands depicting demands.
The students were demanding holding of special examinations to clear backlog, declaration of results in time, proper transport facilities to the Campus as it is 7 kms away from Rajouri town, proper water and electricity supply and adequate library facilities. The students also alleged that hostel lacks many facilities. There is no proper supply of hygienic water, wash rooms are in bad shape, taps are broken and leaking and food stuff being provided to them in mess is substandard. They said that each student is paying over Rs 45,000 for the hostel/ mess  but the  facilities were very poor. The Varsity authorities have turned deaf ear towards these issues despite several representations.
A student told the Excelsior that meeting with the Dean was again held today. The authorities are non committal on the first two demands and for the rest of the issues, they have sought 2-3 weeks time. Not satisfied with the response of the authorities, the students today decided to sit at the main gate of the University from tomorrow and stop entry and exit of staff members and students.  He said the agitation will be intensified and it will continue till the demands are resolved.
