JAMMU, Aug 6: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, on Tuesday exhorted upon the Congress delegations to educate the people about the people friendly policies and programmes of the party so that they can be benefitted optimally.
“The Congress party has always worked for socio-economic emancipation of poor and deserving sections of the society besides protecting their rights”, the Minister maintained.
The Minister was speaking while chairing a one day convention of Congress delegations of block Akhnoor which was organized by Block Congress Committee Akhnoor at Mishriwala.
On the occasion, all delegates of block Akhnoor including Block Working President, Mahila Congress Wing, Block President, senior leaders of the party and Youth Block President were present.
Minister called for promotion of moral ethics and values in the society which are degrading day by day and led to social erosion. He highlighted the contribution of Late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi in upliftment of weaker sections of the society besides strengthening the Congress party at grass root level.
Spelling out achievements of the party, the Minister said that the Congress Government has implemented various reformative programmes like IAY, MGNREGA, Old age pension scheme, PRIs empowerment etc for socio-economic empowerment of the people. He said Government has recently taken several steps for the empowerment of women with an attempt to restore their dignity in the society.
Sham said that peace and progress with thrust on economic activities and job opportunities is the central idea of the Central and State Government. “We are working in tandem to mitigate difficulties of the people and strengthen peace and stability in the state”, he said. He said that peace is imperative for development and every citizen particularly youth of the state is equal share holder in peace and development process. He said Government is determined to carry forward development to every area, adding that peaceful atmosphere is necessary to accomplish this stupendous task.
The Minister asked the youth to utilize their energy for betterment of their society rather than falling prey to certain social evils which will only lead them towards self destruction. He said that youth power has tremendous energy which if used in a right prospective can do wonders in changing the social, economic and political picture of the State as well as country.
