Streamlining State Archives

All civilized countries in the world know the value of their heritage and hence try to preserve its manifestations as the property of future generations. Therefore the institution of archives has come up in almost all civilized countries of the world. In our State, we have the Department of Archives Archaeology and Museums that has preserved priceless treasures of our heritage. Our State has a long history extending  to many millennia and with that we have also a rich civilizational fund which is a source of pride for us. It has to be remembered that the science of maintaining and preserving archaeological remains and artefacts in the museums and also to streamline archival science many new methods have come to fore. It is important that our Archives Department takes steps of streamlining and modernizing the entire spectrum of archival material. The initiative which the Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums has taken in the shape of establishing liaison with the National   Archives of India would bear fruitful results. The Deputy Director of NAI has said that his organization would be willing to lend whatever support it can including some financial support for streamlining and modernizing of the State Archives in a manner that it becomes a source of attraction for the scholars, researchers and tourists. This is a laudable initiative and we hope that the liaisoning will bring good results in near future.
Archives generally preserve and maintain the crucial official documents and files. This becomes huge material with the passage of time and then the important source of the history of the State. We may remember that the British Archives are among the richest archives in the world owing to the great history associated with Great Britain. We have heard many times that such and such a file or record is missing with the Government. This notion has to be done away with once for all. No file and no documents which are considered important should be allowed to go missing. The archives have to be developed along scientific manner so that the record is safe from termite and other elements that contribute to its decay. We are confident that with the rich fund of archives that we have in the State, the State Archives will come up as very important and reliable source of historical researches.
