JAMMU, Apr 30: BJP national president Amit Shah today called upon the BJP Ministers not to become “constituency specific” and visit every district in the State at least once or twice in two months to stay in touch with the people and address their grievances. He called upon the legislators and State party office bearers to focus more on Assembly constituencies, which the party had lost in 2014 Assembly polls with a view to regain them next time.
Addressing meetings with BJP legislators (both MLAs and MLCs), different cells of the party and other senior functionaries on second day of his three-day tour to Jammu, the BJP president called upon the party Ministers not to let “Congress culture” creep into them and work in each and every district of the State.
“Our Ministers should make it a habit that they visit all 22 districts, at least once or twice in two months to stay in touch with the people and expand the party further at grass root level in all three regions-Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” insiders told the Excelsior.
Almost similar was Amit Shah’s message for the BJP legislators and office bearers, both at the State and district levels. He wanted the MLAs and MLCs and State and district unit leaders of the party to give equal focus to the Assembly constituencies, which the party had lost with narrow margin in the last elections. At the same time, the party should keep intact the existing segments, he added.
According to sources, one of the significant meeting Amit Shah and his team had today, was their visit to Veer Bhawan, the Jammu and Kashmir Headquarters of RSS, where they had detailed inter-action on the working of Government and organizational affairs in the State.
Shah was accompanied in the meeting by Ram Lal, BJP general secretary (organizations), Dr Anil Jain, national general secretary and Ashok Koul, State general secretary (organization) while the RSS leaders comprised Romesh Puppa, Prant Parcharak, Purshotam Dadeechi, Prant Karyavah, Rupesh Kumar and Ashwani Gupta.
The RSS leaders were understood to have briefed the BJP leaders that there was very “less visibility of governance” and “party unit” in Jammu and Kashmir. The governance and party working was required to be streamlined immediately to increase the party’s strength, they added.
“There has been negligible coordination between party and the Government,” the RSS leaders were reported to have briefed the BJP top brass in the meeting that lasted over one and a half hour from 9.30 am to 11.10 am.
The Sangh leaders raked up the issues of Rohingyas settlement in Jammu and Samba districts and problems of West Pakistani, PoK and other refugees with the BJP top brass.
The RSS has categorically told the BJP leaders that Rohingyas had to be deported from Jammu and Samba districts at any cost and full and final settlement of West Pakistan refugees was required to be worked out immediately. They stressed for speedy distribution of package sanctioned for PoK refugees.
They suggested that while taking any decision on Kashmir, the Government of India must ensure that nationalist forces are not demoralized. They regretted that the State Government hasn’t been popularizing Central schemes in Jammu and Kashmir, which was a must to make the people aware about large-scale welfare initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sources said the RSS leaders suggested certain corrective measures to the BJP leaders to streamline the working of the Government and State BJP unit as people of Jammu and Ladakh regions had given massive mandate to the party in both 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State.
Sources said the corrective measures suggested by the RSS included revamping of the Council of Ministry and State BJP unit to make both more effective and workable to reach out to the common man and the party cadre.
Amit Shah will return to the Union capital tomorrow morning.
