‘Make caste irrelevant in country’

JAMMU, Dec 11: General Category Peoples Forum (GCPF), Jammu, has asked the BJP and other political parties to stop playing politics over the reservation merely for vote bank and stressed upon the Union Govt to go for massive review of existing quota system in the country.
These points were in the meeting of the Forum held here today, under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, its chairman. The main focus was on extending the political reservation by only next 10 years by Modi Govt without any review. They also discussed the evil effects of reservation in Govt jobs and professional institutions.
Yash Paul Sanson, president of the Forum alleged that Modi Govt, like previous Congress Governments has been promoting casteism for political gains by extending political reservation for the elite section of reserved category, ignoring the poor. He said Modi perhaps has taken this decision under pressure from the strong ‘quota lobby’ or others in the party cadre.
Sanson demanded that Modi Govt should take legal steps to make the caste irrelevant in the country and stop playing politics over reservations for its own political gains, exploiting the poor, needy and deserving among the reserved category.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary of the Forum stressed upon the Government to review the existing system of reservation, which was a temporary arrangement for initial 10 years. He urged upon the Govt to end all types of reservations as a step to make the caste irrelevant and take measures to ameliorate social economic status of poor people. He demanded equal rights and equal laws for all citizens in the country.
Other members, VK Sharma, Dr Bansi Lal, Surinder Kumar, Bhushan Pargal, Ravi Sahni, Deepak Khajuria, Jagdish Dogra and Gopal Dass Verma also spoke on the occasion.
