Stop harassment of transparency activists: RTI Movement

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 26: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement has demanded that Government officials must stop harassment of transparency activists especially those using Right to Information Act to seek information from public authorities.
In a statement, Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that filing an FIR against Sajad Hussain– a Chadoora based activist, is highly condemnable. He demanded that a high level probe be ordered against the Municipal Committee Chadoora where funds meant for civic amenities have been mismanaged in last many years.
“In the past also RTI activists were booked under fake charges in Budgam for seeking transparency and accountability. Instead of taking action against the corrupt officials especially those involved in bungling of public funds, authorities are targeting public spirited citizens,” he added.
If this continues nobody would raise voice against corruption and there will be chaos all around J&K, Bhat said and appealed Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, CIC Bimal Julka, Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyum and DGP Dilbagh Singh to intervene into the matter.
