JAMMU, Sept 6: General Category People’s Welfare Forum Jammu (GCPWF-J) today demanded the Government to stop discriminating with upper castes on the name of social justice.
“Fundamental rights of any particular community should not be curtailed or denied because of their forefathers’ deeds”, Raj Kumar Banathia, chairman of the Forum said during a meeting of the Forum held here today. He demanded withdrawal of all privileges, quotas, special concessions given by Government on the basis of births, stating that birth is not a qualification and it should not be a disqualification.
Yash Paul Sharma, president of the Forum, alleged that the Government has been advocating and promoting the cynical minorityism, casteism, communalism, pseudo-secularism and appeasement policies and harming the interest of General Category people. He demanded abrogation of all such laws and provisions which contradict or violate the fundamental rights to equality and equal opportunities in public employment.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary of the Forum, demanded ending of neglect and insult of General Category people and stressed for ‘Equal Rights & Equal Laws for all’. He said that caste-based reservation is discriminatory and unconstitutional because it makes humiliating, unjust and invidious distinctions between different castes and promotes ill-will and hatred among Indians.
VK Sharma, vice-president of the Forum, demanded establishment of supremacy of Apex Court and urged Government to stop making mockery of its verdicts by amending constitution for political gains.
Bhushan Pargal, another vice-president, expressed concerns for considering SCs and STs as vote bank by the political parties. He condemned continuation of reservation, stating that it violates the right to equality and equal opportunities in public employment, which is part of basic structure of the Indian Constitution.
Deepak Khajuria, secretary of the Forum appealed all General category people to unite for the struggle against discrimination and neglect of their participation in political, social and economic spheres.
