JAMMU, Aug 24: Minister for Cooperative, Stationery and Elections, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma laid the foundation stone of the office complex of the Registrar Cooperatives Societies at Bantalab here today. Funds to the tune of Rs 3.51 crore have been earmarked for the project being executed by the Roads and Buildings Department .
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that cooperative societies have a vital role to play in the economy of the State and exhorted the need to infuse professional approach for improving the functioning of various cooperative institutions .He said that Government is making all efforts to revive and streamline the working of the department, adding that construction of the office complex will help improve the delivery mechanism of the department.
He said the cooperative societies have a multi-dimensional role to play as it can provide services to general masses at the grass root level and stressed that all the institutions should aim at employment generation and maximizing youth participation in the cooperatives movement.
Mr Sharma stressed that the cooperative societies have to face the global challenges and it is important that the set targets are achieved with dedication and hard work.
Registrar Cooperatives Sudarshan Sharma gave a resume of the functioning and achievements of the department and informed the Minister that the new complex will accommodate the offices of the Registrar Cooperative Societies, J&K, Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Jammu Division, Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Special), Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies (H.Q), Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Audit & Inspection), Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Agri) Jammu, Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, (Consumer), Deputy Registrar, (SCARDB) Jammu, District Audit Officer, Cooperative Societies, Jammu.
The Minister said that all the stakeholders have to work together to plug the loopholes existing in the system for strengthening the cooperative movement in the State.
Among others the function was attended by Chairman JCCB, President Cooperative Union, MD JAKFED, officers of the department and prominent citizens.
