State has right on its land to promote national interests: Chrungoo

JAMMU, July 19: The State has a paramount right to use the land of the nation to protect, preserve and promote national interests as per the demand of the time and there can be no question or compromise on the sovereign right of the State to use its land for the protection of its internal and external security.
This was stated by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, senior BJP and Kashmiri Pandit leader and Incharge, Department of Political Affairs and Feedback, J&K-BJP, while referring to the ‘objections’ raised by some regional parties in Kashmir over the decision of the Government regarding power of declaration of strategic areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chrungoo in an interaction with some journalists of western media in Jammu said that the political parties are trying to create fear among the people just to instigate them against the Government. “The amendments recently made by the Administrative Council in this regard are well within the decorum, context and meaning of the powers as enshrined in the constitution. There is no dereliction of the stated position and the SAC is well within its rights to bring such an amendment to speed up infrastructural development in such areas,” he added.
He asked the political parties opposing the move to have an introspection and ask their conscience about their silence so far in regard to the misuse, exploitation and encroachment of the lands of rivers, nallahs, pastures, jungles, lakes and religious places in the valley for the last 35 years by the unscrupulous elements.
“They need to gather courage to speak up in this regard. The fact of the matter is that the entire J&K and Ladakh are strategic areas for the State of India and the Government and the administration are competent to take the appropriate action as they deem fit,” the BJP leader said.
