State Assembly begins, BJP stage walkout, Governor cut short address

JAMMU : More than one-month long State Assembly Session today started amid protests by opposition parties following which Governor N N Vohra cut short his address to the joint session of the Assembly. Bharatiya Janata Party legislators however, disrupted the address and staged walkout during the Governor address.
As soon as Mr Vohra started addressing the joint session of the Legislative Assembly here this morning, opposition parties BJP and PDP created uproar and disrupted the address demanding arrest of the ex-Minister Shabir Khan in alleged molestation case, re-opening of Pathribal case and lack of basic facilities to the people in the State.
BJP legislators blamed Government for not providing basic amenities like water, electricity to the people of the State besides poor development and mis-governance.
BJP MLA from Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma also raised allegations of murder, rape and corruption against the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.
He demanded action against the Deputy Chief Minister asserting that if arrest warrants have been issued against ex-Minister Shabir Khan then why Mr Tara Chand is being ‘spared’. The members led by Legislative Party leader Ashok Khajuria later staged walkout of the Governor address amid slogans.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party also disrupted the address and demanded immediate arrest of the ex-Minister Shabir Khan for allegedly molesting a lady doctor.
Governor N N Vohra following continuous disruptions by the opposition parties, after consultations with the Speaker Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul and Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra, cut short his address and left it mid-way.
Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party members however, boycott the Governor address terming the achievements of the Omar-led Government as total failure.   (AGENCIES)
