KATHUA, Apr 29: Standing wheat crop over 150 kanals of land in various villages of Samba and Kathua district perished in devastating fire which broke out due to short circuit of live electric wires passing over the fields.
According to reports standing wheat crop on 75 kanals of land was destroyed in devastating fire in Dhani village of Kathua district. Being a hilly belt the fire brigade could not reach the area and the entire crop in the 75 kanals of land turned into ashes. The land belonged to four farmers who lost their entire crop in fire. Besides, 150 bundles of wheat which was harvested by the farmers in Mareen area of Kathua district also caught fire and perished, reports added.
In Samba district also standing wheat crop spread over 50 kanals of land was destroyed in fire today affecting about 13 farmers in the villages of Khour Slarian, Dug Balotra Kullina, Rakh Jhang and Bana Chak. In addition to this 65 bundles of what were burnt in village Karlian.
