JAMMU, Mar 24: A Palm Sunday procession was organized by St Peter’s Catholic Church, Christian Colony, Prem Nagar.
The procession was organized to observe the holy and sacred week of Christian faith.
During the procession, the participants were singing “Hosanna” hymns proclaiming Jesus as their king and savior.
Hosanna was the shout of praise or adoration made in recognition of the Messiahship of Jesus on his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. In liturgical context, it refers to a cry expressing an appeal for divine help.
Later, palm leaves were distributed by Fr Jose John Neelamkavil and Fr Shaiju Thuruthyil to all the faithful.
After the procession, the whole community celebrated the holy Eucharist offered by their parish priest Fr Jose John.
The celebration reminded each one to partake in the suffering and death of Jesus with repentance and devotion.
The faithful of St. Peter’s Catholic Church beautifully made all the arrangement in a very prayerful manner.
It is to mention that, Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast, which falls on the Sunday before Easter and marks the beginning of the holy week. The feast commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, about a week before his resurrection.
Palm Sunday is marked by the distribution of the palm leaves, or the branches of native trees, which are carried in a procession.
