SRINAGAR, Mar 24: Residents of dozens of villages in Khag tehsil of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district are up in arms against the State Government as the tehsil has been deprived of a Sub-District Hospital.
A delegation of the residents of the tehsil said that despite fulfilling the necessary parameters no effort whatsoever has been made to construct a Sub-District Hospital in the Khag tehsil. They said that thousands of inhabitants of the tehsil have to either reach the district headquarters at Budgam or Srinagar, the summer capital, in order to receive treatment.
“This tehsil has been neglected by the successive regimes in the State and we have been deprived of a Sub-District Hospital. Difficulties faced by the pregnant women and children of the area are enormous as no gynaecologist or paedtrician is available at the health centres of the tehsil. Other specialized services such as orthopaedics, opthamology and neurology are also not available to the people of the tehsil,” said the residents.
Khag consists of dozens of villages and habitations that include Drung, Gugaldara, Suthrharan, Habber, Shonglipora, Sugin, Poshkar, Dalwash, Surish, Naserpora, Malpora, Sharan, Koker Bagh, Khanpora, Fojipora and Saidwan.
Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman told Excelsior that the Khag tehsil does not fulfill the norms set out by Union Health Ministry for a Sub-District Hospital. He said that the department has no proposal as on date to construct a sub-district hospital in the Khag tehsil.
