Jammu Dec, 16: A special drive was launched by Traffic Police Rural Jammu on today in Samba- Kathua under the supervision of Vinay Kumar, Sr. Superintendent of Police, Traffic Rural Jammu accompanied by Javaid Iqbal Tabassam, DySP(T) Samba-Kathua/DTIs concerned to curb the menace of traffic violations, particularly indulging in overloading, over speeding, rash and negligent/stunt driving , wrong parking on roads and other visible traffic offences.
Similar type of special drives were also launched in Rajouri and Poonch districts under the supervision of Nawaz Ahmed, Dy.SP (T) Rajouri-Poonch. The main objective of the special drives was to aware the general public as well as transporters and drivers regarding traffic rules and regulations.
Special stress of drives were given upon the visible offences like overloading, rash and negligent driving, over speeding, without crash helmets/seat belts , so that the nose of violators is tightened in the area. Traffic Police Rural Jammu under the close and effective supervision of SSP Traffic Rural, Jammu till date had launched various special drives in the whole rural jurisdiction against different type of visible as well as other traffic offences to ensure strict enforcement and maintenance road discipline.
During this period, a large number of vehicles were challaned and seized. A total number of 124557 challans have been issued to the violators and a total of Rs 19623570 fine has been collected from violators. 1864 vehicles were seized in various offences and out of the total Challans issued against vehicles, 14083 vehicles against overloading, 720 vehicles against dangerous/over speeding, 59 vehicles in the influence of liquor, 51748 vehicles against without Crashhelmets, 4750 vehicles against without seats belts and 17406 vehicles for wrong parking.
Traffic Police has also counseled the violators before imposition of fine and 400 regular Traffic awareness programmes on road safety and traffic rules have been conducted so far. Moreover to have a check over the repeated/ habitual offenders 22 DLs, 12 RCs and 08 RPs have also been recommended for cancellation with detail of committed traffic violations to the Transport authorities for stern action as a corrective measure.
14 FIRs, have also been registered u/s 279/336 during enforcement duties against overloading/dangerous driving . SSP (Traffic) Rural Jammu Vinay Kumar had stressed on the traffic cops to ensure proper discipline, accountability and transparency in traffic management system, so that the violators could be dealt with iron hands under the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act. The officers have been further directed to ensure wearing of body worn camera while enforcement/regulation duties.
