Calls for action against criminals, drug peddlers

JAMMU, Apr 4: In his first field visit after assuming charge, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Chandan Kohli visited border areas of Jammu district and reviewed security mechanism along International Border.
Kohli chaired public meetings in sub division where DDC members, BDC chairpersons and PRI members were present and interacted with civil society members and prominent citizens discussing range of issues with them.
Locals appraised police officer about prevailing ground situation and put forth a number of demands with main including special border area recruitment, regularisation of all SPOs and eradication of menace of drugs.
While addressing, Kohli said that addition of drugs and especially among youth is a grave issue and police is already carrying out an in-depth drive against it.
He sought full cooperation of civil society in fight against drugs.
He further assured that all other demands put forth by them including of special recruitment for border area and issues of SPOs shall be taken up with concerned higher authorities.
Later, the SSP reviewed security mechanism in hinterland close to International Border asking officials of police to ensure a close vigil in entire area and especially notorious infiltration routes..
While taking stock of functioning of local police establishments in RS Pura sub division, Kohli asked officers to ensure a zero tolerance policy against notorious criminals and to take stringent action under them as per law of the land.
He further asked them to strengthen crime prevention efforts.
