JAMMU, Dec 30: SSB Vol-unteers Welfare Society (SSBVWS), Jammu and Kashmir held a strong protest demanding compensation to one of the volunteers Santosh Singh who was killed in police lathi charge in New Delhi.
A large number of SSB volunteer led by State President of the Society, Chiman Lal assembled at Babe Talab here and burnt effigy of Delhi police amidst anti- government slogans for not resolving their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, Chiman Lal said SSB volunteers from border States are demanding employment and pension, since August this year.
He claimed that many including women sustained serious injuries in the lathi-charge by police during protest rally towards Parliament on December 14, in which Santosh Singh got serious injuries and died.
He demanded martyr status to Santosh Singh and Rs 10 lakh compensation for his bereaved family besides Government job to one of the family members. He also demanded from the Central Government as well as high command of Delhi Police to initiate a high level inquiry into the killing of Santosh Singh and take strong action against the culprits.
He said if Government fail to resolve their demands the SSB volunteers of 15 States will start a strong agitation throughout the country for which Government will be responsible for any untoward incident.
Others present in the protest included General Secretary Om Parkash, Balveer Raj, Tilak Raj and Kamal Kumar.
