JAMMU, Nov 23: While opposing the strike call given by some ‘self styled’ trade unionists in the State Road Transport Corporation on November 25, J&K State Road Transport Corporation Workers Union represented by Shakeel Ahmed Kuchey, Ashok Mehra, Paramjit Singh and others have claimed that there will be no strike on this date and SRTC workers would continue their routine work.
In an emergency meeting of the SRTC Workers Union held here today, the members took serious note of  some self styled trade unionists of the Corporation who for their vested interests have given call for one day strike on November 25. While reacting to their claim, a spokesman of the SRTC Workers Union said that there are a few self styled unionists who have no mass base in the Corporation. They are enjoying political support  and idle wages.
The Management has taken a decision to utilize the services of the workers properly and a few of them, who are in the habit of getting wages without any work, are opposing the decision. These so call trade unionists have never projected legitimate demands of the SRTC workers. He said that issue of conductors- cum- clerks has already been discussed with the management of the SRTC by the Union. It was assured by them that cases of CCCs will be decided on merit.
The spokesman said that employees of Corporation can not afford a strike at this point of time when State Government has adopted positive frame of mind with particular reference of Chief Minister  and Transport Minister Ch Mohd Ramzan. They have infused new life to the SRTC  and also released 20 % DA in favour of its workers. Keeping all the aspects in mind and on the basis of assurances of the authorities concerned, there is no need to go for any strike. Therefore, the SRTC Workers Union has decided to stay away from the strike call given by a few individuals on Monday. Normal work of the Corporation will continue smoothly, the spokesman maintained.
