JAMMU, Oct 13: State Road Transport Corporation Union has threatened to go on strike if the Government withdrawn its agreement with the CAPD in violation of SRO-157 with regard to the dis-engagement of around 350 SRTC trucks deployed for ration supply in Jammu and Srinagar city besides other districts including Leh -Ladakh.
Chairman of the SRTC Union Wajahat Hussain alleged that some ministers in the BJP-PDP Government are interested to engage private fleet to ferry food grains of CAPD throughout the State, just to provide benefit to their favourite transporters. In the next Cabinet meeting this issue has been listed in agenda. He said the previous Govts in a bid to bring SRTC out of massive losses had brought an SRO engaging own vehicles in transportation of ration/ food grains in the entire State including Ladakh. But unfortunately, for the vested interests, some ministers are hell bent to engage private transporters for the same task.
General secretary Paramjeet Singh claimed that CAPD has yet to clear the huge liability of SRTC worth over Rs 25 crore and now people at the helm of affairs in the said Department are going to hire the private fleet. He said the SRTC workers will strongly oppose any such move and go on indefinite strike if it was allowed to happen by the Chief Minister.
