The after effects of the snowfall along the Zojila Pass having subsided, have enabled the authorities to open the 434 Srinagar-Leh National Highway after a gap of full four months. This season’s snowfall is considered to be the heaviest as well as severest, having broken all previous records. That being the beauty and magnanimity of the nature has its part of associating difficulties as well. However, priority , naturally is to be given in allowing movement of essential commodities along this route to reach the identified destinations including Ladakh where early replenishing of the exhausted stocks was much needed . Due precaution needs to be taken for the time being due to the Corona virus threat still looming large in Ladakh and allow restricted traffic only.
The road could have been opened well by March 15 but the decision was rightly deferred as an administrative measure keeping in view the pandemic of Corona virus. Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils are playing their active part in the entire process and only those truckers are to be allowed carrying essentials who are properly registered and scrutinised.
