Srinagar-Ladakh, Mughal roads closed

Srinagar, Dec 24: The Srinagar-Ladakh and the Mughal road connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri district in Jammu remained closed for a second consecutive day on Friday, police said.
But the Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for vehicular traffic. Light motor vehicles were plying while heavy vehicles were allowed to move only from Jammu to Srinagar, a police officer said.
He said the Srinagar-Ladakh road was closed as a precaution following fresh snowfall at Sonmarg, Zojila Pass, Captain More and Drass on the highway on Thursday.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) pressed into service men and machinery to clear the snow besides conducting necessary weekly repairs to make the road traffic worthy.
The historical Mughal road also remained closed for vehicular traffic for a second day following snowfall a day earlier. A snow clearance operation is on open it for vehicular traffic.
Meanwhile, other far flung areas of the Kashmir Valley which were closed on Thursday following snowfall were open for traffic except Gurez in Bandipora district. The snow clearance operation on the road is going on. (Agencies)
