1Gurpreet Singh is an Indian wrestler, who is deemed to be fit for winning good haul of medals at the highest level. Having won a galaxy of medals at the domestic and National level, Gurpreet possesses all that is required to blossom at the International scene. After a series of superb performances in the Inter-Collegiate, Inter-University, Senior Nationals and allied tournaments, Gurpreet got the nod of the National selectors to be picked in the National team for World Wrestling Championship, wherein Gurpreet lent a tiny sliver of credibility for an ill-fated campaign as Indian wrestlers signed off without a medal at the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Gurpreet Singh reached the quarter-finals in Men’s 75kg Greco-Roman category and only narrowly lost (5-7) to Zurabi Datunashvili of Georgia in the last 8 stage. No other Indian wrestler managed to win more than a single bout as they all exited well shy of the medal rounds.
Gurpreet Singh came through tough battles against Amanaly Atayev of Turkmenistan and Ricardo Gil of Spain before beating Petr Novak of Czech Republic in the pre-quarter-finals. After this outstanding show, in otherwise, lacklustre World Championship with regard to the performance of Indians, Gurpreet Singh is projected to be a medal winner at the bigger circuit of the game. He is almost in the same league of the likes of ace wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Yogendera Yadav and Amit Kumar etc.
