Born on October 31, 1985, Aditya Mehta became the first Indian to reach the final of a ranking tournament in his home event, the Indian Open. He began his professional career by playing Challenge Tour in 2004. He was the first Indian to play on Main tour since Yasin Merchant did in 1990s. He fell off the tour at the end of the season but regained a place for 2011-12 season due to being awarded the Asian Nomination. He won a silver and bronze medal in Men’s Snooker team and singles at 2010 Asian Games. His current ranking is 63 and has currently winnings of 37, 506 pounds. In 2011-12, Mehta needed 4 wins to reach the main draws of all ranking events. He went three but lost his last match to Ryan Day. In April last year, Mehta won 2012 Asian Snooker Championship with (7-5) victory over Pankaj Advani. He finished with the ranking od 80, but due to his win in Snooker Championship 2012, he earned a spot for 2012/13 season. Mehta reached the main stage of a ranking event for the first time in his career in August by qualifying for the International Championship. But for rest of the season, he was not able to qualify for another event and finished with world ranking of 73. The 2013-14 saw the introduction of ranking event for the first time in India. He created history in the recent Indian Open. Mehta has a distinction of writing a regular column for Indian Sports Portal.
