SPMR College of Commerce organizes Startup Mela

JAMMU, May 12: Institute Innovative Council (IIC), Government SPMR College of Commerce in collaboration with Rotary Club, Jammu Tawi organized first of its kind Startup Mela named “Start up Bin,” inspired by the popular TV show ‘Shark Tank’.
Ravi Shanker Sharma, Special Secretary Higher Education J&K, was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that this was pioneer program in J&K and lauded vice president of IIC Dr Parveen Singh and his team for making efforts and doing such a wonderful job for the student community.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Surinder Kumar (Principal of the College) informed that as an organization, IIC of the College is committed to foster innovation and support the growth of new businesses. He said by connecting with the right candidates, it can help drive economic growth and create new job opportunities in our communities.
Rahul Sahai (MD, Sahai Group of Companies), Sahil Anand (MD of Nidra Group), Dr Dushyant Choudhary (Rotary Club District Governor 2022-23), Satish Kaul (Director at Emcure Pharmaceuticals and Zuventus Healthcare Jammu), Vir Bhanu (Co-founder of Company Suventure, Bangalore), Raman Jolly, (owner of Jolly Transport Company) and Megha Khairnar (Business Advisor at TechnoServe India and Co-founder of Umeed, Hyderabad) were panelists in the show.
The show featured some interesting ideas, such as exporting traditional Jammu Dogri meethi Roti called ‘Ruth’ to all parts of the world, providing dog grooming services at home through a startup company called Uoozo, and rooftop gardening concepts.
All the panelists showed keen interest in the ideas presented by participants and gave instant offers to many candidates. They also offered to provide guidance and financial support to the budding entrepreneurs in order to scale up their existing ideas.
Dr Nazia Laitifi, Prof Monika Mahajan, Prof Anwar Ul Haq, Dr Deepak Pathania, Prof Shreya, Prof Charadeep Handa, Prof Meenakshi and Prof Naresh coordinated the whole program under the guidance of Prof Barbara Koul (HoD Commerce). Dr Nazia Laitifi presented vote of thanks. The whole program was compered by Prof Apfan Ali.
Prof Sandhya Bhardwaj, Prof Savita Jamwal, Prof Shafkat Jahangir, Dr Monika Malhotra, Prof Deepshikha Sharma, Prof Harpareet Kour and other faculty members were also present in the event.
