NEW DELHI : The Samajwadi Party and the Janata Dal(United) today raised an uproar in the Rajya Sabha on their demand for a discussion on the issue of failure of the Narendra Modi government to bring back the black Money and attempts to carry out conversions across the country.
The Opposition uproar led to adjournment of the House till 1200 hrs.
Soon after the House passed a resolution condemning the bail granted by a Pakistan court to 26/11 mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and laying of papers, Naresh Agrawal of the Samajwadi Party said his party has issued a notice on discussion on the issue of the government’s failure to bring back the black money.
Sharad Yadav of the Janata Dal (United) said during the campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised he would bring back black money to the country and that 200 crore people would be provided employment.
“They have yet to fulfill these promises. Instead, they are starting a campaign for ‘ghar wapsi’ (homecoming). Such campaigns are going on across the country. “We have given a notice under Rule 267 for suspension of the business of the day to discuss the issue,” Mr Yadav said.
Supporting him, Sitaram Yechury of the CPI-M and Ram Gopal Yadav of the SP said the spreading of communal hatred was not good for the country.
Leader of the House Arun Jaitley, however, said the issue had already been debated in the House so the motion for suspension of the business to discuss the matter was inadmissible.
“If the Opposition wants to discuss any other issue, we are ready to begin the discussion right now,” Mr Jaitley said.
Derek O’Brien of the All India Trinamool Congress said he was with the issue raised by Mr Sharad Yadav and Mr Ram Gopal Yadav.
“We also want to have a discussion on the issue of conversion. The Prime Minister should come to the House and take part in the debate. You do not need a 56-inch chest to do so,” the Trinamool member said.
Anand Sharma of the Congress said there has been a stand-off in the Parliament all of last week. “We had request the government that it was a serious issue and that the PM should come and participate in the debate and reply to it.
“Unfortunately, the government and the PM are running away from the debate. Those in power do not let the Opposition voice their opinions,” Mr Sharma said. This was followed by uproar from the treasury benches. Soon after, members of the SP and JD-U entered the Well shouting slogans against the government. Amid uproar, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House till 1200 hrs. When the re-assembled at noon, the SP and the JD(U) continued with the ruckus entering the Well and shouting slogans again the government. It compelled Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn the House for another 15 minutes till 1217 hrs.
