RS concerned over numerous delays in prosecution of Lakhvi

NEW DELHI : The Rajya Sabha today adopted unanimously a resolution expressing its grave concern at numerous delays in prosecution of 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and called on Islamabad to take steps to dismantle the infrastructure of terror in its country.
A resolution, moved by Chairman Hamid Ansari immediately after the House met for the day, expressed concern over the bail to Lakhvi granted by a Pakistani court. It also expressed concern at numerous delays in his prosecution. “The Rajya Sabha unanimously condemns the decision on grant of bail to Lakhvi — accused conspirator in murder of 166 innocent people in Mumbai on 26/11. We are concerned at numerous delays in prosecution and the apathetic attitude of the government of the Pakistan which has resulted in the grant of the bail to an accused terrorist,” the resolution said.
“We express the grave concern of Indian people that just one day after the tragic killing of 145 innocent children and other persons in Peshawar, an accused terrorist could be released on bail by the same country. It seems that the lesson that there should be no compromise with terrorists, has not been learnt,” the resolution added.
The resolution said, “The House calls upon the government of Pakistan to proceed strongly with its declared intention to appeal the bail judgement and requests the government to ensure that on no account is such an individual permitted to be released.”
It also called on Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attack to justice and take steps for dismantling the infrastructure of terrorism in that country. “The people of India attach the highest importance to bringing the perpetrators of 26/11 attacks, their masters in Pakistan and their accomplices, to justice. “We urge the Government of India to take every step, in its power, including through its relations with other countries, to put pressure on Pakistan to bring the matter to satisfactory conclusion and also reiterate the importance of Pakistan dismantling the infrastructure of terrorism in that country and ensuring that terrorists are not allowed to remain free to continue their evil activities against India and the other countries of the region,” the resolution concluded.
The Lok Sabha had passed the resolution on December 19.
