JAMMU, Feb 9: The tunes of Indian classical music echoed the IIT Jammu campus on this evening as Jammu and the institution in collaboration with Kashmir chapter of SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) organizes ‘Sur Sandhya’ to promote the legendary works of Indian Heritage.
The programme started with welcome address from Shubham Gaur, student general secretary IIT Jammu and Prarthana Tripathy, who introduced the guest performers for the evening. The musical maestros were honoured with floral felicitation by Prof Ashoke K Sarkar (Dean – Academics, IIT Jammu) followed by the lamp lighting ceremony. The event was attended by students, faculty and staff online and on campus.
Celebrated Sitar maestro, Pt Shubhendra Rao and legendary Tabla maestro, Pt Ramkumar Mishra graced the occasion with their legendary tunes. Pt Ramkumar Mishra (an award winning Tabla Waadak) astounded the audience with his musical percussion, the echoes of which will be long remembered by everyone in the audience.
Sur Sandhya, the evening of Indian classical music was orchestrated by Dr Sapna Sangra (National executive committee member and chairperson of SPIC MACAY, J&K chapter) along with Dr Seema Rohmetra (Coordinator, SPIC MACAY, Jammu region), Dr Ankit Kathuria (Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu), Dr Amitash Ojha (Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu), student volunteers from Malang (the Music Club of IIT Jammu), Ankit Gupta and his AV team from IIT Jammu and Institute Communication Officer, Akanksha Chauhan.
The evening was well received by the audience and requests for more such events were heard across groups. The performance left everyone mesmerized and can easily be known as one of the most memorable evenings at IIT Jammu.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Director-IIT Jammu.
