Anantnag man dies in Jammu, 55 test +ve

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Feb 9: A man from Anantnag district of Kashmir died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu while 55 persons tested positive for the virus in Jammu and Kashmir today.
GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh told the Excelsior that 65-year-old man from Anantnag, who was suffering from multiple ailments and was positive for the virus, died in the GMC Jammu tonight.
He said the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag has been informed about the COVID fatality.
Seventeen persons today tested positive for Coronavirus in the Jammu region including eight in Jammu district, seven Udhampur and one each in Rajouri and Doda districts. Six other districts of the region didn’t report any Corona case today.
On the other, eight persons today recovered from the virus, five of them in Poonch district, two Ramban and one in Doda district.
Jammu region now has 51674 Corona cases. Of them, 50834 have recovered while 118 are active. There have been 722 casualties in the region, the highest being 371 in Jammu district followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 40 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 15 in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, 38 people including Tehdildar Uri tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir today taking the Jammu and Kashmir Corona positive cases past 1.25 lakh.
Those who tested positive today include 19 from Srinagar, 3 Baramulla, 8 Budgam, 5 Pulwama, 1 Anantnag, 1 Bandipora and 1 from Shopian.
Tehsidar Uri was among those who tested positive in Baramulla district today. A health official said that 37 people were tested for COVID at Sub-district-hospial Uri through Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) which included symptomatic, pregnant ladies, travellers, employees, health workers, in which an officer and a 37 years old woman from Dahni Seydan Uri tested positive for COVID-19. The official has been advised to go for home isolation and have all precautionary measures.
In J&K out of 4,730,411 samples tested so far, 4,605,404 were negative while as 125,007 tested positive. Among them 593 persons are active, 122,470 persons have recovered and 1,944 persons have died.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached 73,333 including 71,636 recoveries and 1,222 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 593 including 475 from Kashmir division.
With 55 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 122,470, which is 97.97 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, the UT of Ladakh today reported five COVID positive cases, allin Leh district.
Ladakh now has 59 active positive cases including 51 in Leh and 8 in Kargil district.
