JAMMU, Sept 8: Dogri Sanstha, Jammu organised a special short story reading session by authors from Udhampur. This was a unique programme, in which three writers from Udhampur, Raj Rahi, Jagdeep Dubey and Ajay Mahajan Gunehgaar, read out their stories. A large section of Jammu literary fraternity was present on the occasion, especially the short story writers of various languages.
Khalid Hussain, an internationally acclaimed Punjabi writer, was the chief guest, Prof. Lalit Magotra presided over the function and Chhatrapal, a prominent Dogri writer was the guest of honour. Dr. Nirmal Vinod, the general secretary of Dogri Sanstha, welcomed the audience. Susheel Begana, the literary secretary conducted the programme.
Khalid Hussain , while speaking on the occasion said that short story had always been a strong forte of Dogri. He named veteran writers like Madan Mohan Sharma, Narinder Khajuria, Ved Rahi and others in this regard. He said that even the stories presented in today’s function re-affirm this fact. He appreciated the diverse range of form and content of the presented stories.
Chhatrapal, in his speech thoroughly analysed the stories bringing out their merits and shortcomings. He said that each writer has his distinct style and stories portray the nuances of the modern life and modern sensibility.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, summed up by saying that the programme was very successful not only because of high literary merit of short stories, but due to the scholarly observations of the audience. He said that such activities of hard core literary merit are essential for healthy growth of literature. He complimented all the story tellers of today’s function and the audience for their enthusiastic response to this effort of Dogri Sanstha.
Dr. Chanchal Bhasin, secretary, Dogri Sanstha presented vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme.
