JAMMU, Nov 1: Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Nirmal Singh today rang up Governor Satya Pal Malik, Advisor to Governor, Incharge PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Khurshid Ganai and Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam and sought their intervention in releasing huge pending wages of need based and casual workers in the PHE Department for past several months.
Dr Singh pointed out that need based and casual workers of the PHE Department were on strike for past several days but none from the administration has bothered to meet them and sort out the issue.
Due to strike by the PHE workers, the common people were suffering shortage of water, which was being supplied only on alternate days, he said.
He called upon the Governor, his Advisor and the Chief Secretary to negotiate with striking workers and clear their pending wages immediately to end their as well as people’s sufferings. He said he was assured by all three that the issue will be looked on priority and steps taken to address it.
The Legislative Assembly Speaker hoped that the Government will immediately release funds exclusively for payment of wages to the PHE workers and ensure that in future also they get timely payment.
