Speaker reviews on-going irrigation, education, PDD works

SRINAGAR, May 26: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul today distributed cheques worth Rs.1 lakh among 5 families of Goodgari Mohallah in Eidgah Constituency whose houses were gutted in a fire accident recently.
The Speaker assured the fire victims that every possible help would be provided to them by the Government. He asked the District Development Commissioner, Srinagar to provide the assistance to these victims from the Red Cross also. The Speaker also directed the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department to give free ration to these families.
Earlier, the Speaker convened a meeting with the officers of Irrigation, Education and Power Development Department (PDD) and reviewed the overall progress of the on-going works of these departments.
The Speaker directed the PDD authorities to depute a team of officers and engineers and conduct survey of the Eidgah Constituency and formulate a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for upgradation and improvement of HT/LT lines for rural areas of the constituency and submit the same to the concerned quarter within a week’s time so that the funds could be arranged for the purpose. He also asked them to install 9 transformers of various capacities in different areas of the constituency. Mr. Gul directed the concerned to ensure proper upkeep of streetlights in the area.
While reviewing the education system, the Speaker directed for conduct of survey of all the educational institutions in the Eidgah Constituency and asked them to ensure proper maintenance of sanitary units especially girls institutions. He asked them to prepare a proposal for construction of new sanitary units wherever this facility is required and submit the same to the concerned quarter for release of funds at the earliest.
While discussing the issue of irrigation facilities in the area, Mr. Gul asked the concerned to take necessary measures for cementing and de-silting of all canals.
