Speaker, Rajnath and other lawmakers participate in Special Cleanliness Drive

NEW DELHI, July 13:Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers and Members of Parliament, including the likes of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, actress-turned-lawmakers Hema Malini and Nusrat Jahan, participated in a Special Cleanliness Drive – Swachhata Abhiyan – on Parliament premises here on Saturday.
The Speaker launched the two-day drive at a simple function attended, among others, by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and Urban Development and Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Mr Birla said the special Swachhata Abhiyan is aimed at spreading the message of ‘cleanliness’ as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.
The Defence Minister said for the first time, such an initiative has been launched in Parliament House complex and congratulated the Speaker Mr Birla for it.
Dignitaries, including Mr Birla, also took a pledge to maintain cleanliness on the occasion.
“Keeping India clean, beautiful and sustainable is an investment in well being and prosperity of our generation and the future…Swachh Abhiyan everyday, everywhere; this is our home” Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur tweeted.
Among others Mathura MP Hema Malini of BJP and Nusrat Jahan, Trinamool Congress MP, were also present.
Several lawmakers, including the likes of Pratap Chandra Sarangi, were also seen taking keen interest in keeping the Parliament House premises clean.
