JAMMU, Mar 22: BJP Kashmir Cell National Co-Convenor Chander Mohan Sharma has allaged that there seems a deliberate attempt on part of Coalition Government of the State to ensure the lapse of an important Bill aimed at protection of Hindu temples and shrines in the Valley.
Addressing a press conference at Party Headquarters on Thursday, Chander Mohan Sharma said that the Speaker of J&K Assembly Mubarak Gul has not constituted the Joint Select Committee (JSC) inspite of decision of the House. The House had desired unanimously to send the bill to Joint Select Committee of both houses of Legislature.
The Kashmir Hindu Shrine and religious places bill, as introduced in the Assembly, suffered from ambiguities and confusion and hence some members opposed the bill in its that form. But House as a whole wanted a Joint Select Committee to deliberate on the bill to make it more useful and acceptable to all the stake holders.
Two and half month have passed but Speaker Mubarak Gul has not constituted the JSC. Chairman of the Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra has already recommended five members from Upper House but Speaker of the Assembly has not proceeded further to constitute the JSC.
J&K Assembly will have only one and last sitting in the month of August and if bill is not introduced after required amendments it will lapse permanently, said Sharma.
He said that the party feel that this is a deliberate attempt on the part of the government as some of the members of the ruling Junta are in league with such elements who have grabbed the properties of Hindu religious places. He demanded that the Speaker should immediately constitute JSC and ensure the introduction of bill in its acceptable form.
Kashmiri Pandit leaders of BJP-T.N. Bhat and I K Kaul were also present in the press conference.
