JAMMU, Nov 16: In order to streamline traffic movement during peak hours in Jammu city, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today directed the concerned authorities to ensure smooth plying of transport across the Jammu city.
The Speaker was addressing a high level meeting here today.
Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture, Priya Sethi, MLA, Jammu West, Sat Pal Sharma, MLA, Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta, MLC, Ramesh Arora and MLC Charanjit Singh Khalsa were present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed threadbare various issues to ensure traffic regulation in different areas of the city during peak hours.
The Speaker directed installation of CCTVs at main junctions and Chowks especially at Gurdwara road Gandhi Nagar, Shamshan Ghat, Shastri Nagar and Satwari Chowk, so that traffic is better managed. He also sought cooperation from the people in this behalf.
The Speaker urged construction of Matador Stands wherever required so that traffic jams by matadors is controlled. He also asked concerned authorities to ensure pick and drop system of buses/matadors is regulated.
He also asked concerned authorities to ensure proper management of Rehri’s/Phadi’s so that traffic movement is not restricted especially around Kanak Mandi and its surrounding areas.
The Speaker also stressed on road widening and directed clearance of all encroachments along roads sides so that traffic jams are avoided.
The legislators also gave their suggestions to improve traffic movement in the city.
Kavinder Gupta and Priya Sethi asked concerned authorities to constitute a committee to take look into various issues of traffic in Jammu city. Priya Sethi stressed on taking the necessary steps for hassle free movement of traffic in the Winter Capital.
Among others, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal, Inspector General, Traffic Police, Viplav Kumar, DIG, Traffic Police, A. A. Wani, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Commissioner, JMC, Mandeep Kour and other senior officers of concerned department were present in the meeting.
