JAMMU, Mar 16:  As Jammu University authorities refused permission, the activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad organized a blood donation camp outside main gate of the campus on Wednesday where Kavinder Gupta, Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, was the chief guest.
Around 80 students, including girls, donated blood during the camp, which was organized by ABVP, in collaboration with Department Of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion Medicine, GMC Jammu, in memory of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev.
While speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta expressed his displeasure over the attitude of JU authorities for denying permission to organize a blood donation camp on the campus. “This is illogic to stop an organization from  conducting  prgrammes like blood donation camp,” he added.
The Speaker appreciated ABVP for its positive and constructive activities and added that such programmes should be conducted as regular feature.
Earlier, Lokinder Singh, president, ABVP JU unit, informed that the university wing of ABVP has had been conducting blood donation camp on the campus for the last 31 years. Had the JU authorities accorded permission, more number of students would have come forward to donate blood this year also, he added.
Dr Virender Koundal,  Ganesh Kunde, Abhinav Pandotra, Avinash Sethi,  Sidhant Randawa,  Deepak Gupta and  Pulkit Churangoo were  main organizers of the camp while Dr Vijay Sawhney,  Associate Professor & Head, Blood Bank GMC,  was the Program Convener.
Pertinent to mention that the Jammu University denied permission to ABVP for organizing this blood donation on the campus with the plea that JU accommodation can not be provided  to any political and religious organization, including student  outfits, affiliated to any political party.
Even as ABVP provided proof and by laws of the organization to clarify that it was not affiliated to any political party, JU authorities refused to grant permission for booking of seminar hall to organize the event.
