SP uproar on discrimination against UP; RS adjourned till noon

NEW DELHI : The Rajya Sabha today witnessed a ruckus by the Samajwadi Party over the alleged discrimination against Utar Pradesh, forcing three adjournments of the House, the last one till 1230 hrs. Soon after laying of papers in the House, Mr Ram Gopal Yadav of the SP raised the issue of the Central government not granting enough aid to Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that the Centre has been delaying the money required for the development projects in the state. “The Centre is indulging in discrimination to the state. Money for many of the developmental projects has been delayed and only half of the amount required for the schemes were granted,” Mr Yadav said. He said if this situation continued, his party would not allow the House to function. Soon after, members of the SP entered the well and shouted slogans against the government. Amid uproar, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House for 10 minutes at 1126 hrs. (AGENCIES)
